Selected Timeline of Lee Boon Ngan
Born 23 May 1939
in Singapore soon after her family emigrated from China. One of her older brothers was the well known landscape painter, Lee Boon Wang (1934 - 2016). Her youngest brother is Lee Boon Yang
(b1947), former politician in Singapore who served as Minister for Defence, Minister for Manpower, and Minister for Information, Communications
and the Arts.
1957-1958
meets Chua Mia Tee through her brother, Lee Boon Wang. At
18, she sits for a portrait by Mia Tee. This portrait goes on to become
the most iconic and celebrate portrait at the National Gallery of
Singapore.
1961 – 1968
Mia Tee and Boon Ngan marry in 1961, taking their
honeymoon in Genting Highlands Malaysia. Their son Chua Hong is born in 1963. They have a daughter, Chua Yang, in 1968.

Graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. She was one of a few active female painters during a period when the local art scene was primarily dominated by male artists. Lee Boon Ngan was well-known for her still-life paintings of flowers.

Passed away on 23 April 2017 after a year of illness. Lee specialised in painting flowers in oil, but shunned the limelight. Her works were collected by private collectors and commissioned by statutory boards such as the former Board of Commissioners of Currency,
Singapore, which has merged
with the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
